Stock S15's (and s14's) are very quite and refined engine sound wise, but that makes it sound lifeless and dull in a run of the mill BMW sort of way. Metal intake helps a lot, makes turbo wooshy noises on throttle very audible, silicon or stock rubber dampens that right out. Non VVT SR's sounds better, CA sound quite exciting.
S15 spec S were around 6-7k and spec R were generally around 10-12k (assuming average condition, not necessarily show-stoppers). They've both come on quite a bit over the last 12 months and now all of a sudden there are talks of the S15 rocketing off into the sunset over the next 12-18 months.
